Finally, did you ASK United if you could go negative in your account? They will do that depending on your flight history, your status, etc.
Thanks all for the wonderful suggestions...
I have lots of CO miles but already used up this years 25K transfer quota on Amtrak :-(
I travel EWR-BOS a lot but really cannot justify taking a detour through D.C to get to Boston on United even for the same price as direct flights on AA/CO.
I have tons of points on Hilton, Marriott, Starwood - I usually use my Starwood points for airline miles but with UA, it is a very bad conversion rate (2:1) - cannot get myself to do that.
I'm registered with idine, but with AA - will need to look into changing that option but do not foresee myself spenind $300 on dinner.
FTD seems like the best option of the lot - I just have to convince my husband that I really really wanted to buy myself some (hmmm, acutally a lot) flowers - about a month ahead of my birhtday
UA is holding my reservation for 2 weeks - that's my timeframe.
I did not think of asking them to allow me to go negative - Last time I was short by about 7K miles, they tried very hard to make me buy those miles. I doubt they'll be any more generous this time.
Once again, thanks for all your help - I'll keep looking...
