Back to whether or not I have noticed any difference in service/chat/banter between row 1 and other CE rows, the answer is no as a rule in my experience. On a packed 767 sat in row 4 with a potential 19 people to be dealt with first and the same behind, I must admit a slower and less interactive service was delivered, but under the circumstances I thought that to be totally understandable.
I have had success on the LHR to GVA or ZRH routes on an A320, but not AMS (which used another aircraft with a fixed-size CE cabin)
Exit row in ET - and invariably with adjacent seat blocked, other than on the fullest flights - is still very much my preferred win-win option (ie offering best combination of value + reasonable comfort). Ok, no chit-chat with FA’s .... but plenty of time for that on longhauls.
With no business class size seats in CE, i mostly see it as a real waste of money (if already holding status) and would only use it when ticketed as part of a l/h or with Avios redemption.
I agree, but I'm gonna pay for the upgrade if it's under 1.5 GBP/TP so it remains good value if one needs a few TPs.
Don't like those seats myself, at least for short-haul, where the lack of floor storage outweighs the legroom advantage. I like having my essentials close to me. If they'd let you put them under the middle seat 'table,' that'd be a different matter.
Never had an issue stuffing my sweater and a couple of other things under the middle seat table, now if you are talking about a full-size bag, maybe that would be an issue
Then again I'm 6'4 so any legroom is a must have.
