Use your AS status and challenge to DL, UA, or B6 depending on your travel habits and specific cities that you frequent on the "northeast" end of things. If you are flying out of LAX, AS is not awful...but if any of SNA/ONT/BUR/LGB are also convenient and you use them regularly, AS will certainly have its limitations.
If you find that AS improves its product enough in the future to meet your liking, you can always match back at that time. My guess is that it will be a rocky 18-24 months at AS as they aim to standardize fleets, schedules, labor across the combined company...just look at how DL/NW, UA/CO, and AA/US mergers have gone...and you should expect this one will be about the same (i.e., not a great time for FF's).
