Absolutely ridiculous! Can't say Northwest doesn't have guts...according to the Airport Website the following Airlines use Lindbergh
  • Air Canada
  • America West
  • ATA
  • Continental
  • Frontier
  • KLM
  • Midwest
  • Delta
  • American
  • Iceland Air
  • Northwest
  • United
  • US Airways

That would be moving alot of airlines to Humphrey. That coupled with the fact that according to the official info there are a total of 8 gates in H and its pretty clear it is a landgrab pure and simple. Then you add the messyness that some of the non-skyteam airlines are allied in some way (ie America West although admittedly not from MSP) and even the single alliance thing starts to make no sense. If there really is a gate shortage in L then the obvious thing would be to move the LCC's (ATA, Frontier, AirTran) to H and invite in other LCC's as well (Southwest, JetBlue, Independance Air )... oh and of course there would have to be some decent inter-terminal transportation (skytrain? perhaps NWA could pay for that???). Another way to free up gates would be for the Skyteam members to reduce duplicate routes to a single member airline.

Another point - Can Humphrey even do international arrivals? If not then the proposal would split up Air Canada from US Air and United....
