Except he's only getting paid for time in the air. Same with FAs. Up until the door closes, they're working for free. The ground safety checks, the paperwork, etc... that's not flight hours. A pilot usually will get a maximum of about 35 flight hours across four 12-hour duty shifts. And that $251/hour number was from the TOP of the payscale. Most pilots are making a lot less. That 1000 hours (900 is more common) of flying time suddenly doesn't look as good.
