There was a Sheraton Heliopolis announced a month or two ago as well, and people suggested it was also going to be the former Fairmont, which was once a Sheraton years ago.

Yes. I spotted the same. I have seen this happen before and think it's odd that they would go as far as listing them on the website, without a confirmed deal, but it's not an area of business that I am familiar.
I pass through Cairo often and was looking forward to the extra options. Hopefully they will be added back.
