It suits BA/OW members with status as they can get the pick of the best seats and this is especially useful with last minute bookings thus rewarding FFr's. We rarely see complaints from BA/OW regulars with status here about this and so seems to suit the BAEC model. It's a buyers market so people can choose to fly elsewhere if they don't like that policy.

Yeah it's one of those win-win benefits. It costs BA nothing yet keeps their status members happy. I think they could have done it in a way which would have been fairer to all their CW/CE customers but as someone without status I would think that.
And only through the info on this board to be honest. There is a difference I feel between Silver and Gold and although I never thought I'd say this I will probably retain it until 2020 now.
As you say it seems to work for those with any kind of status and Silver in the big scale of things isn't that hard to get especially if you can take advantage of CE offers. 3 x CE trips from the regions to 80 TP destinations or 2 and a cheap WT+ will get you there or even a QR run. Lots of possibilities. I can see you doing a TP run if you ever come back to the UK/EU
