This entire process is very inappropriately planned. I had applied for the GEP in September 2017, following which I was informed I had to visit the PSK in India!! I thought it would be a major interview for background screening - NOT ONE QUESTION!!! Only had to show passport and aadhaar card with finger printing. Why cant that happen at the Indian Embassy in the US???
Anyways, went for the interview in December. Got a message from the police station that my verification is over and application has been sent over to the passport office. Still waiting for "conditional approval".

Any idea how long it will take?
