I've never bought travel insurance for a flight. I am willing to bet that most people have travel insurance via their credit card and those that don't simply take the approach that a change fee once in a blue moon is cheaper than buying insurance all the time.
Let me chime in here and strongly urge folks to read the fine print for the case where a credit card provides "trip insurance". I found, for example, with a primary credit card I employed, the trip insurance from that issuer was very, very limiting. It didn't nearly approach the level of coverage of a trip insurance policy from various other providers. I even phoned them to ensure I understood the limited coverage which they did confirm. It was all but worthless.
