This one is super-clear: OP should have gotten one night paid for and stay/night/points credit with Hilton.

Hilton does not guarantee that the rate it pays Marriott will earn you Marriott Rewards points/nights. However, it does not hurt to provide them your MR number and see what happens.

If you are an infrequent traveler, it's up to you how much to push for the points. However, assuming these hotels weren't rock-bottom cheap, I think a follow-up email, copy of your Marriott folio, and a request for 1 night's reimbursement is likely worthwhile. This shouldn't be a difficult argument to win.
