Seems like a harsh comment; doubt bluedemon211 got GS status flying coach.

OP inquired about increasing chances of upgrade on international travel.
On 12 hour flight that could make significant difference in ability to function well on arrival; in client's interest to have their representative awake and alert.
It's a cost-benefit situation.
Looking at some Asia routes, business class seat likely $2K-$3K (and Y seats the same). Client may be unwilling to pay that. But moving from lowest economy fare to upgradable one (W) using GPU costs a few hundred dollars. That does not seem like a fireable offense. Not to me anyhow, and I'm a cheapskate.
