You are certainly in for lot of unpleasant surprises if these comments is indicative of your knowledge/assumptions about India.
a) previous posts indicated they would call to verify address
b) Hindi is generally the language I've encounter when shopping, but when with my family I've often heard gujarati spoken
all of the above was moot as I did not find the SIM card kiosk after baggage. I ended up borrowing a SIM from a family friend for using Uber, and whatsapp if I got lost while out shopping.
