The ESA thing aside, paying $95 for the privilege of losing your legroom is a joke. My wife and I have a companion pass, and there have been multiple flights that cost us less *combined* to fly than it did to pay the pet fee. We would happily have paid for a 3rd seat in that situation, which of course SW disallows.
It's not really a joke. Other than profit, the whole reason for the fee is to discourage people from taking their pets on board. Even though they act otherwise, WN doesn't really want Fido on board.
