My bet is you still have travel funds and they will not credit your credit card in less you bought totally higher priced refundable tickets.
Not so. I've cancelled flights and seen either the option to return to credit card or hold funds for future use. If you select the option to return funds to credit card, it will be returned to credit card and not held as travel funds. So no need for fake booking try.
