The 2018 fall break is October 17-19, so the OP’s return flights will be part of that heavy travel time.
OP, you could avoid MSP by flying AA, but their BE fare for FLL-BIS is more than Delta’s main cabin fare. And with AA’s BE you are not allowed to place any bags in the overhead bins.
