I plan on flying from ORD-LHR on either Dec 31 or Jan 1st. I am travelling with my wife and three children. It appears I can get 5 J seats on the 8:30pm departure, but only 2 (confirmed) upgrades on the 5:30pm departure. I have PLT status. Group opinion please... how likely are the other three upgrades to clear on the 5:30pm flight, six months from now, or should we just take the 8:30 flight?? We have not purchased tix yet.

I want the 5:30 flight because I think the kids will eat dinner on the 5:30 flight and take up an hour or two...on the 8:30 flight I think the meal service will just keep them awake (and fussy).
