It is true that the FB algorithm is very complex. This year so far I did not have any OpUp in AF, but between 2011 and 2016 I was upgraded at least once every year (And I've had DL Silver, Gold, and Platinum between those years). There was one time when I was flying with a FB Platinum, she had an "A" class ticket and I had a "W". I was upgraded to Business and she flew in the seat she paid for.
