1. The seat really is hard and if you have spine issues, sciatica, etc., I recommend you bring a lightweight, low profile seat cushion — I bring an inflatable Therm-a-rest Lite seat pad which works very well. $30 at the big Seattle-based online retailer. It weighs nothing in your carry-on, rolls up or works unrolled as added cushion for laptop if you have one. Good for all activities involving sitting on wood, plastic, marble, concrete, or dirt. I forgot to bring it to Madrid a couple of years ago and was very sorry because the flight was delayed 5 hours and they kept us corralled at the gate and the only place to sit was the cold, hard floor.
2. A large (functional is even better, lol) IFE screen looks impressive, but in reality I often have trouble finding content that I really enjoy so I bring my own, usually downloads from the big online content provider in Silicon Valley. I keep in my bag with my charging cables a small, lightweight tablet stand for hands-free viewing. Mine is Ectown portable foldable tablet stand, fits in a pocket, $4 at the big Seattle-based online retailer.
3. Old news here, but when picking seats, read seatguru reviews carefully and decide what’s most important to you. I always go for odd row window seats because I like the buffer between me and the aisle but others complain that it’s more cramped there in lie-flat position. YMMV. We’re in middle seats on our next trip just to be sociable but splitting up into 1A and 1D and taking the risk of gallery noise (daytime flight) on the return to get slightly more foot space. I figure by the time we settle into our seats, we'll have nothing left to talk about anyway.
Genuine question - is there an aversion to naming Amazon and Apple?
