Lots of negative comments on this thread about how status doesn't get you much, or it's not as useful as it once was, but consider this: for those of you that are BA Silver or Gold and fly in W or Y, the next time you fly BA or OW remove your FF # from the booking and see how things go for you (no premium check-in, no free bags, no fast track, no lounge, no free seat selection, no perks onboard, no fast track at immigration, etc). I think you'll find your journey will be a completely different experience then you're used to. At the end of the day the Executive Club is just a frequent flyer programme; it's a nice to have, not a reflection of your status in life.
