I'm not familiar with the UK card in terms of transfer partners. However, Avios are great for short haul awards. This would be intra-Europe flights. This is because the award chart is distance based. I wouldn't use Avios to travel intercontinental as the redemption rates jump through the roof, especially for premium cabins.
