To my shame I have been sent out of a restaurant for turning up in a dressing gown (robe) and slippers. In my defence it was a spa resort and this was acceptable and indeed expected attire at breakfast and lunch between massages and the like, but apparently strictly not permitted at dinner and I missed that instruction, oops. Wanted the floor to open up and swallow me whole.
