I'll add that the inflexibility noted above is very common in Japan as they tend to follow the rules. It makes it nice and consistent but then can get frustrating when requesting anything out of the norm.
That's why it's best for the poster to go back to the Westin or Sheraton where they know the hotel can accommodate their requests without too much hassle.
