As Ashkale said it is due to the Malaysian Civil Aviation Authorities' ruling as it applies to Air Asia and Malindo Airlines too.

CX/KA also has this ruling. As does SQ.
On my most recent trip, ending on Dec 17th, I flew on AA (x2), CX (x2), MH, JL (x2) and only on MH they asked for all electronics to be shut down during takeoff and landing, Previous trip (in Nov) was a combination of AA, QR, AY, BA and B6, and none of them requested that all electronics to be shut down. I could go on..

But it appears very much like this is a Malaysian rule, not just MH..
