All international arrivals (except UK and Ireland landing in T4 main) to MAD have to go through security to connect. In T4, arrivals are sent to the top level of T4S where you either have to go through security to get into the departures or passport control to get down to the train to T4 where you again can either go landside or go through security to get into the departures area.
