Fare disparity when applying GUF2?

Hi,

I would like to book return flights from London to Singapore on specific dates in 2018, paying for two people in WTP and using a GUF2 to upgrade both to CW.

There is currently award seat availability in CW for the flights I want to book - so far so good.

Here’s the bit I don’t understand: if I do a dummy booking to buy the WTP tickets in the current BA.com sale they are priced at £648 + £465.91 taxes = £1,113.91 per person.

However, if I go through the process of redeeming my GUF2 on BA.com for the same WTP flights therefore upgrading to CW, they are priced at £1,098 + £568.91 = £1,666.91per person.

i can understand the taxes being higher if travelling in the CW cabin, but why is the base WTP fare per person £450 higher when redeeming the GUF2 as opposed to buying the WTP tickets without applying the voucher? Is it not possible to apply the GUF2 when taking advantage of the sale prices on BA.com?

Thanks
