It's a well known economic phenomenon for firms to make a "best rate guarantee" and then set higher prices, assuming that only a few potential customers will do the research and/or hold them to the guarantee. [It's similar to the way many people believe that WN is the cheapest airline, don't check but instead automatically buy from the WN website, and end up paying more than they would have paid for the same trip on a legacy USA carrier.]
