Hi folks,
it is the day if my JFK-CAN flight and I was able to secure preferred seating on all my flights last month right at booking (with the advice of everyone here on FT—thank you!!) . I was curious and asked the contract agent at check-in if the exit seats are available. He said yes and he could move me but with a charge. I told him that I called China Southern to book my current preferred seat without charge right after booking as a STE+/DL Platinum. I called the number that directed me to their office in Guangzhou last month. He said ok and wanted me to sign an “irregularity form.” He wrote on the form that I changed my seat from 38H to 37C. Before signing, I wrote down that I was a DL Platinum and STE+ with my SkyMiles number just to make sure whoever reads it will be sympathetic and maybe waive whatever fee. There was no fee on the form or any stipulation that I had to pay. He wrote down my seats and passport number on it.

I then asked for a priority baggage tag before he sent it off without a tag and a lounge pass. He had no clue what I was saying, so he called a supervisor. I was already ticked off but the supervisor was nice about everything and said I deserved all these benefits as an elite plus passenger (the priority tag and wingtips pass even says First Class/China Southern sky pearl gold/sky pearl silver and Elite Plus!). The contract agent had no clue what he was doing. I told the awesome supervisor that the agent needs retraining for the SkyPriority line. He agreed.
now my worries. Will they charge me since the “irregularity form” was filled out? The supervisor even said that I should not pay.
