AFAIK there’s a commitment by the DHS/CBP to implement such scanning in and out of the US border. This is no doubt a pilot of that technology with the cooperation of BA.
There’s also a furore over the way that this infringes the rights of US Citizens as it requires ALL passengers to be scanned. I believe there’s an issue with the matching of outbound scans when the individual was not scanned in the first place (e.g. a Citizen who has never travelled abroad before - or at least since this scheme started to be rolled-out).
I don’t think we’ve seen the last of this story!
