I know this has been discussed ad nauseum before, but I don't see WHY United cannot make it not just easier, but simply more accurate and reliable. We have pretty much ALL driven to an airport now (no CTO 2 miles from home anymore) to sign a bluey and confirm everything.
these days, I fax the bluey to the party I am upgrading and confirm everything again with 1K and make sure my info is in not only the SSR field but the UNITED field.
I have resigned myself to believing that they do not WANT to have it work out. It is not just incapable or uniformed CSR's or gate agents. Once going through "fields" and when, where and at what hour, minute, second and location the BLUEY was signed, I have had people STILL deny it to me or to others whom I have upgraded.
This HAS to be some sort of corporate effort to increase $$$ and reduce transfer of freebies.
I just cannot imagine that an organization or its people, are unable to simply make it work.
At least, they are focussing their efforts on keeping the planes flying and the meals and nuts warm!
