The pax who receives the code must either be the one flying or the one paying for the ticket. It is not transferable in any other sense (you can buy someone else a ticket, but you cannot give or sell it to someone else for them to buy their own ticket).
“I” have only once gotten such codes, when my in laws on the way to visit us were somehow inconvenienced (not enough to tell us about it, so I was surprised about the email). The discount codes went to my email since I had booked and paid for the tickets for them. I had no problems adding them to my wife’s Alaska account (they don’t even have MP accounts). And they have been used successfully. Perhaps this worked
because they don’t have MP numbers?
