Based on your location I'm guessing you frequent international properties; most of my MR stays are in the US and upgrades are few and far between (as Plat).

International properties seem to do better with this in general with all programs.

I almost always get an upgrade at SPG properties regardless of location. SPG seems to focus more on Elites than MR.

I have more lifetime nights with MR than SPG, but my booking progression (with reasoning) is as follows:

SPG (better upgrades than MR, guaranteed lounge, but some properties in need of update). Best elite treatment by far.
MR (guaranteed lounge, nice rooms, but little likelihood of upgrades, very consistent) Exception is Courtyard; I hate most of them
IHG (better upgrades than HH but no guaranteed lounge/breakfast...inconsistent; can be great or horrible depending on property)
HH (free breakfast) Hilton's are very nice but HGI is hit or miss. Meh

Bear in mind my booking progression is based on hotel experience...not program. If I were to put it in order by program IHG jumps ahead of MR. SPG still best and HH still worst.
