That was not a deal.
It was an obvious mistake.
You had no reason to cancel your award ticket on BA so soon, knowing that given the "fare" you paid, there was a very high risk that your ticket was going to be cancelled.
No one will believe you, when you say that you bought First class transatlantic tickets in the past for a similar price. This is just impossible and may explain the kind of reaction that some posters have had towards you. To generate empathy, you need to tell the truth.
I see you as the kind of "customer" who would pick a bottle of Dom Perignon in the shop and ask to pay €13 because one zero had falling off the label and the scanning at the cash register says € 130. This kind of "customers" rarely attract sympathy from others, so you should not feel offended.
