Flying with Medications Questions

Hi Everyone,

I've searched the forums and found some threads on travel with medication, however I haven't found an answer, and I'm politely hoping someone can help!

I'm flying from the U.S. to the U.K. and will be traveling with a number of prescription medications. I have two questions I'm hoping people can help with:

1) Are you allowed to carry all your prescriptions in carry-on baggage, even if there are more pills in one bottle than are required for the duration of the flight? I assume the answer is yes, as otherwise it would require you take prescription medication out of the bottles for separate packaging which I would guess is not allowed.
2) If medications which are not needed during the flight have to be placed in checked baggage, how do you deal with those medications which cannot go below a certain temperature? I have one which must be stored at room temperature only, but does say "excursions" through temperatures reaching -86°F are "permitted". Is that basically saying they can go in the baggage hold for flying?

Thank you very much to anyone who can help!
