Then again, cost, and having the parachute tucked away for such a long time might be some concern...
Welcome to FlyerTalk, BeechBum! Do you have any thoughts on how to get everyone (or anyone) out of an airliner too damaged to glide before it hits ground?
Do you have a past accident in mind where parachutes might have saved lives? That would be a good starting place. Perhaps UA Flight 232? I don't remember the exact timing, but they might have had as much as 30 minutes at a reasonable altitude to hold doors open. Perhaps even longer if they didn't feel a great need to get the plane on the ground.
Not that I think the PFDs have all that much value, but I don't feel the odds warrent having chutes on board. If I did, I'd bring my own
