As I’ve researched Bangkok for our best option, I actually have been surprised at how highly rated the St Regis comes in almost all evaluations and rankings. It almost always is rated just a hair below the Oriental and Peninsula, but is also always one of the 4-5 most highly rated hotels overall. Its reviews on TripAdvisor, FlyerTalk, Hotels.com, and Spg.com are all consistently excellent. The entry level rooms here are often significantly larger than those at the Peninsula. The biggest drawbacks and criticisms seem to be a non-riverfront location, issues with SPG suite/room upgrades, and issues with SPG benefits by entitled Platinums. Service and decor seems to be of a consistently high standard here for almost everyone, and almost everyone agrees it has some of the best dining venues of any hotels and one of the best hotel bars in the city.

I’m therefore not at all surprised that this hotel can command as much as the Peninsula. Considering the value-add one can get as an SPG Platinum here, this is unquestionably an amazing option. For me, as a Plat100, the value-add seems even more blatant.

Certainly, I expect I’d likely stay at the St Regis the next time in Bangkok. The only other options really would be the Siam (to get a private pool for me) or the Peninsula (to get the riverfront view for my husband).

I last stayed in the city at the Sukhothai in 2009. I was very impressed with its service and modern decor, as well as its food/beverage, though its suite style was a bit too Vegas-y for my tastes overall. Still, even then I thought it held up very well against the Peninsula and even the Oriental. So it doesn’t surprise me that the St Regis can stand up quite well against that competition for many people even today.
