I noticed the same thing....last week on a same day AA Avios booking...wasn’t sure if it had something to do with being a last minute booking.
Couldn’t select seats in the AA app, website, or checkin kiosk...I was assigned MCE seats at checkin.
TSA PRE was no problem...just follow Karfa’s instructions.
