All one ticket bought ticket on United.

Do I need to retrieve my bag in London? I would prefer not to, so if I do need to retrieve bag, and plan to visit Central London what are my options?

Thanks.
I flew UA/TG via LHR to BKK and in both directions I had to retrieve my bag because my layover was over 12 hours in LHR. TG tried to through check in but wasn’t able to. There is a place to drop off your bags near the baggage claim and it was fairly easy and inexpensive. I didn’t have to wait very long for my bags either. Both times I arrived in LHR, my bags were on the carousel when I got there (and I used fast track both ways so wasn’t waiting for customs/immigration very long). I planned on going into London as well so I was a little annoyed that I had to claim my bag, but honestly it was a very quick process and it added less than 10 minutes total time, so I wouldn’t worry about it if you aren’t able to through check in.
