I joined in 1992. Left my account dormant with approx 15k miles in it for 5 years after 1995.
AC/AP gave me plenty of notice about mileage cancellation. First the statements indicated my account would subject to cancellation for inactivity. This eventually progressed to letters from Aeroplan touting the benefits of travelling on Air Canada and using Aeroplan partners.
They never did follow through on the threat of outright account cancellation, however, they did revoke all my accumulated miles.
