Redeemable ff miles and status are 2 different things, but related.
Earning status is not the same as earning ff miles
With frequent flyer programs there
- redeemable miles/points used for awards flights, upgrades and the like
- status earning for the various tiers/level (example ruby, sapphire, emerald, Plat, EXP)
USA based frequent flyer programs unfortunately often use the word
“miles” as one measure of status earning. Non USA based frequent flyer programs usually use a different word/phrase like
tier points or
status credits. That lessens the confusion between status and redeemable frequent flyer miles.
