You may have misunderstood me earlier. I didn't say that other airports aren't doing their own thing. I was trying to say that not only do things differ from airport to airport, they also differ from lane to lane sometimes.
It clearly says in the SOP that FSD's cannot implement their own policies. So if they are straying from the SOP, they are wrong.
My airport (CVG) was ranked #1 in security and #2 in Customer service by USA Today, and we still don't have everybody on the same page. It doesn't mean that things aren't safe, it just means that things will be a little more frustrating for the passenger.
Have no fear though, training teams and alot of much needed remedial training are on the way.
