There are quite a number of typically smaller airlines that don't have big websites where there is no advance seat selection until OLCI or even until the airport. That's due to their size, BA's approach is entirely due to status encouragement and partly due to revenue. I say partly, because for some seats the pricing is set so high that you can only see this in terms of discouraging people from advance seat selection before OLCI.
