I travel nearly every Sunday and back home every Friday. I used to check a suitcase and just carry a small messenger bag as a carry on. There was too much of a hassle having to check luggage at the start of my trip and wait for it at the end of my trip. I purchased an Osprey Pack Porter 46 Travel Backpack which fits in all overhead bins, even the Embraer's. I have never had to luggage check it or valet check it. It fits under the seat in front of me if I am on standby and I am the last to board with no overhead bin space left. I fortunately don't have to wear a suit or tie so I am able to fold and pack all my clothing and gear so all I have to do is hang it up or provide a warm iron Monday mornings. The pack doesn't wear as quickly as checked or valet checked luggage and has been durable for over 150 EQS's.
