I agree with you. You have to remember that we're just doing what Washington tells us to do. Most of us believe that if somebody pulled out a pair of scissors or a pocket knife that they'd be pummeled by the passengers/crew/Air Marshall/Federal Flight Deck Officer etc... Those little scissors can be sharp and you could do some damage with them, but you could also do alot of damage with other things we allow. I've said this before in other threads, but most of the things that frustrate the passengers, frustrate the screeners too. I overheard a lead confiscating a small knife once. He said "You couldn't skin a goldfish with this thing, but I have to take it."

I still believe that Box Cutters/Large Knives should be prohibited.

After 9/11 people went crazy which is understandable. If you've noticed, the TSA has relaxed on a lot of procedures in the past two years. I as well as other screeners predict (and we could be wrong) that passengers will eventually be able to travel with small scissors and small pocketknives again. I hope this is the case; because confiscating these little boogers takes alot of our/your time. We are now on our fourth version of the SOP and it continues to make more and more sense, so I can only see better things on the horizon for screeners and passengers. We'll have to wait and see, but I agree 100% that the prohibited items list needs alot of work.
