The last two times Ive been through the key was to ensure every official knows you're to the line with a connection, especially at the security line when you reach the top of the stairs pre security. Just show the transit card and insist they take you to the front of the queue. A load to BP guys just followed the flow and got stuck behind a couple of hundred peeps. Also make a bee line for the showers and get in that queue before anything else!
