Guess not. At my home airport the conversation banter between TSA agents is always about haircuts, getting nails done, who is next having a baby, what nightclub did they most recently frequent, and then the inconvenience of screening a passenger interrupts their day. Contrast that to say, somewhere in the Midwest and I get a friendly greeting, smile, someone who speaks to me at above a first grade education level, etc. I guess my point is I wish there was some kind of centralized screening and hiring process and then those folks hired were fanned out across the country. If it’s done that way now, the system is broken.
I despise the theater as much as the next person, but that shouldn't go without saying that there are some absolutely delightful agents, especially at smaller airports. I seriously think some of them work for the TSA just so they have someone to talk to.
