AirAsia may be extremely cheap, but you have to buy tickets during their promos and typically well in advance. Using DMK instead of BKK is a pain in every sense, however.
I usually fly this route either on AirAsia (if get it very cheap) or CX (with Avios). However consider a status challenge of Hainan Airlines if you actually plan flying with them quite much. It seems very realistic.
