Ride Report - 2018 Nissan Armada

Starting to see this giant beast in the fleet a lot more recently now. They seem to end up on the aisle too.

I recently got to test one out. National classifies these as FFAR. I've seen both the SV trim and Platinum trim in the fleet, which results in cloth and leather seats respectively.

Specs:
Nissan Armada Platinum (FFAR), AWD
MPG: 13 (city)/18 (highway)/18 (observed)
5.6L V8 - 390HP, 394 lb-ft torque
7 speed automatic
20" Wheels!

Car feature highlights
Navigation, Tri-Climate Control, 360 camera with sensors, power liftgate, power third row seats, memory seats, rain sensing wipers, forward collision warning/intervention, blind spot detection, lane departure warning, lane intervention
Rear view mirror has built in back up camera - just flip the mirror when reversing.

Pros:
Fully loaded with many standard features (Platinum Trim), especially 360 camera
Spacious, comfortable seats - 8 passenger, lots of leg room

Cons:
Gas guzzler - most of my driving was freeway, but in downtown SF, I started to average about 14 mpg.
Sensitive safety system. In narrow lanes, the Nissan would keep beeping thinking that I would hit the car. Forward collision braking would activate too early even when unnecessary.
Outdated Navigation firmware - Nissan needs to update this across their fleet.
Infotainment system - difficult to navigate / not within arm's reach

Overall - I think the likelihood of finding a Armada Platinum is quite high when compared to finding a Tahoe or Suburban LTZ. For these larger SUVs, I prefer grabbing one in the higher trim as the safety features make it easier to drive. Ride quality - I found the Armada to be very bouncy. Personally, I think the Tahoe has a slight advantage in this area. However, the Tahoe has more body roll than the Armada. The brakes on the Armada are also not very smooth either - I found it difficult to slow down smoothly.

Would rent again if I need AWD or space. Get the Platinum trim.
