I tend to use Taxis unless public transport is quicker ....

In London, for instance, there's just no quicker way to get from liverpool Street to Bayswater EVER (even when there's no traffic) than getting a tube .... Same with hundreds of routes around london. NY is very similar at many times of the day as well ...
