I agree. It also might be worth mentioning that AA seems to offer these fares on flights with lighter loads, where seats would likely go unsold even after last-minute business purchases. BE fares aren't typically offered at peak times or if just a few seats are left.
BE certainly opens up the possibility for more last-minute discounting without destroying yields (though opaque channels can still work), but I think in these cases they're usually matching a specific ULCC flight that departs around the same time.
