I stayed in an AirBnB near Akihabara about 2 years ago. It was a very small 1 room apartment with a bathroom and a kitchenette. The experience was great. It was a small building where you accessed the apartments from an outside stairway behind the building. In 6 days of staying there I never saw another resident. However, I also wasn't instructed to avoid anyone or lie. It was a tremendous deal. Unfortunately, that unit is no longer available.
